Hurlingham Park in Fulham

Hurlingham Park is one of the largest parks in the whole of Fulham, or indeed London, and is one of the favourite locations locals like to go for some rest and relaxation. It has several sports pitches and if you go along to the park on the weekend it is not unusual to see a rugby or football match being played on one of them. At other times groups of boys are sometimes seen kicking a ball around while the girls catch some sun or indulge in a spot of reading.

If you’ve always fancied trying your hands at a spot of bowls, there is also a bowls club nearby which tends to attract clients of 50 and upwards. More senior visitors to the area will find it a great place to socialise and to meet lots of new friends. Be careful though, competition can get fierce as members battle for supremacy with the bowling balls!

Parking is usually not to difficult, provided you turn up early, so if you are bring a car, or have hired a vehicle for your stay, you should have no problems parking up. Don’t be tempted to park in a residential area nearby though if you can not find parking as the traffic wardens tend to be very sharp in this part of London and the penalties for traffic misdemeanours can be severe. Furthermore locals are quite likely to give you a bit of a mouthful too, as parking for residents is made all the more problematic in a part of London where parking is at a premium at the best of time.

Picnics at the park can be pretty nice, but be warned that the park can get quite busy so if you are looking for somewhere quiet for a romantic lunch you may want to give Hurlingham Park a wide berth.

Finally if you do visit the park please remember to pick up all litter and dog mess before you leave and ensure Hurlingham Park remains one of the nicest parks in London.

A Day Out at the Football

A great way to spend a day in London is to pop along to a football match. There are about half a dozen teams in the Premiership based in London in any given season, so you will be spoilt for choice. Of these two of the best for a would-be soccer fan are Fulham FC and Chelsea.

While Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham will tend to attract quite a rowdy and often unpleasant crowd, Fulham and Chelsea – largely due to their location in the heart of London’s elite, tend to draw in a more polite crowd with more of a family feel (it is true Chelsea hasn’t always been this way though).

A game at Fulham will set you back about £20 and if you’ve got a car or hired one out you should leave it at home. Chelsea is much more expensive, which is why Fulham is probably a better choice if you get the option of choosing between the two. Parking is a nightmare at both grounds though, so again if you’ve got a hire car leave it at home and use the tube or walk.

After the match you may want to check out a restaurant known as “The Farm” – a trend place to eat and a great way to round of a nice day out. Food is of a superb quality and very reasonably priced, as is the drink, and will round off the evening nicely.
