When you fly to any airport there is always going to be the issue of how you are going to get yourself to the hotel. Many people have tried to combat this by meeting people at the airport who then drive them around but this is obviously not possible if you don’t know anybody in the city! One of the most popular methods of transport is through the taxi; indeed, it is something of a novelty to catch one of the fabled black taxi cabs in London. However, getting a taxi from the airport is not the best option. It is always pricey; the taxi drivers that work at the airport know that their services are in demand so are able to push their prices up; simple supply and demand. On top of this, there is the old rumour that the London taxi drivers will take you the long way around to get to your destination in order to maximise their fare (of course, this is more a case of tarring all drivers with the same brush than being true of all taxis). However, it will still be expensive through your stay because you will be reliant on taxis to take you everywhere.

Instead, hire a car. This is very quick and easy to do and can be booked online before you even set off. You will even be able to avoid paying for petrol in some cases; so make sure you keep hold of those receipts for when you return the car!
